AMMA & ME REVIEW: 'BIG BOUFFANT'

I am currently helping judge a national book award for first-time authors and illustrators and decided to have my Korean Mother In-Law help out.

Here's my AMMA & ME review of
"Big Bouffant".

AMMA: The girl make herself with honey and tomato ketchup in her hair. Nobody home? Where are the parents? I don’t understand why she put honey and tomato ketchup in her hair. If mother watch, she can’t do that.

ME: Not satisfied with current coiffes and wanting to make a splashy entrance at school Annabelle decides to take matters into her own hands. A pantry of condiments, some ribbon, a few small figurines and even a live bird later, she has her new doo. I think some of the protesters down at occupy Wall Street have borrowed this recipe for their dread-locks. This is a cute book about the importance of finding and being yourself.

AMMA & ME REVIEW: "ELI, NO!"

I am currently helping to judge a national book award for first-time authors and illustrators and decided
to have my Korean Mother In-Law
help out.

Here's my AMMA & ME review
of "Eli, no!".

AMMA: Doggy so fancy. Very fancy.
I like dogs to be little ugly, little fat.
He looks not so funny. Looks like
an animation I saw… Clifford.

ME: I flipped through this book
at MoMA recently because the
cute, colorful, sophistocated artwork screamed PICK ME UP.
The colors are nice. The end-papers
are great – I love the bone and tennis ball pattern. The story reminds me quite a bit of NO DAVID, right down
to the loving ending.

Alexander Camelton

Alexander Camelton preceded Ethyl's card (below) by one month and one day. Mr. Camelton accompanied a 30th wedding anniversary gift for my friend's Phil and Jan.

Alexander was my first successful
ink-wash. He now lives in their kitchen.

Pencil and ink-wash.

To Australia With Love

Today I inked and colored two
mini-posters that are destined for
a comedic dou in Australia – a
guy and gal who have developed
the crazy habbit of reading fibs from Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib (particularly the REALLY long one)
on the way to school in the morning.

Thanks for sharing the love!

Back at ya.

New Headshot

This dandy portrait was given to
me at a school in Connecticut.

I think it captures my kindness, scraggly beard (apparently I needed
a BIG TIME shave), my one ginormous pupil and my not-identically-sized
eye glasses.

Thank you John – I truly love it!!

Sad Bunny

This bunny is sad because it
is not Easter any more.

Lucky for him the second
coming starts tomorrow.

According to a gentleman
on the subway.

Korean Doug

Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib hit the far east not too long ago. Right now he is probably enjoying some Bim-Bim-Bop, Bulgogi and Jae-Yook-Tofu-Kimchi. I'm jealous.

More Korean-Doug @ Doug's blog, including how to say IT WAS ME, COMB-OVER and SENIOR TOMATO in Korean.
